Howdy Folks.
Just got off the skype with Ron Teamer in KC talking about his song 'Sweet Mama Told Me' which we've been playing for the last month.
Before we started playing it, I called Ron up to ask what the lyrics were. In the spirit of true Bluesmen, he makes up'em as need requires. I had taken notes on the 3rd verse recorded at Dannys lawn party, but didn't catch the first two.
Ron suggested that I make the other two verses up as he 'had the lyrics round here somewhere' but couldn't quite put his hand on them.
I took some notes whilst Ron talked about the meaning of the song and used them to write a few verses. The song has been going well at shows and we thought we might try recording it so i called up Ron to run the verses past him and see if they were acceptable, or if he'd laid his hand on that old piece of paper.
Nervously, I read out the lyrics and I could hear Ron's brow crinkling in concentration so I switched to singing it....and found approval.
Thanks to the magic of the internet, we now have our first international co-written song. Yay.
Howdy Folks.
So how you doing? We're busy. Rehearsal's on in an hour as we try to master Bloomington.
That gives me enough time to post some of what we've been up to + a great clip of Theo, Bill and our special guest Isaiah B Brunt at Friday nights Townie gig.
So how about I do this one as an internal Q & A
Q: If we're not making an album, why are we recording so many tunes?
A: because we can
A: Because Rosie writ all these what good instrumentals like, wotcher.
A: Because on our to do list was 'soundtrack'
A: Because: Fun
if you answered A, A, A or A you get five points!
Did I mention that there were points?
Q: What Are we gonna do with all these tracks
A: Release'em as singles
A: Pile'em up and release an EP or an Album
A: Release some, store others for winter when ground nuts are hard to forage.
Wow that was great. I'd like to thank me for joining me here.
Lasers
We have a bumper NYE gig coming up and i'm looking at lasers. Not actually looking at them in a retina burning eyeball searing OMFG MY FACE IS ON FIRE kind of way.
Thanks to Gerry and Jason at Dj Warehouse. yes obvious plug. The boys sort us right out.
As I emerged from DJ Warehouse I saw that our Order had arrived. Storms to go please.
Friday at the Townie
The early evening was strangely quiet in Newtown, as if people had hunkered down for the night.
As the night lengthened, the nocturnal Australian began to come out and it got hectic around 1am.
Here's Mr Bill helping me poster the place! Come inside creatures of the night! Many wonders await!
Stormcellar Revellers Throw the Horns.
The cool kids play pool
Musically a very strong night.
The boys are playing Bloomington at the head of the set to get their heads around it. I got footage but it got a bit wonky after I had to put down the camera to answer a question about where a weird crackling sound was coming in through the PA and were all my new lights responsible (nope wasn't me! HA!).
A new song, 'Don't Take It So Hard on me' is coming along well, when we hit it I saw Man Dancing from behind the bar - you now, that state where Reserved-Aussie-Blokes-Who-DON'T-Dance finally lose it and succumb and start doing all sorts of pseudo River Dance leg shakey action.
You know you've seen it.
Maybe even done it.
When some guys started doing push ups in the middle of the dance floor at 2am during our last set then I guess you've...you've...what heck is that all about? Dancing I get. Push ups?
I didn't get home until 3:30am.
Big night.
Cheers to Matt on sound.
At the start of the evening, Isaiah's drummer had to go so Bill and Theo did what they do. Put the best damn no prac no rehearse rhythm section in town to the test.
Here's Theo and Bill backing Isaiah B Brunt on Black Magic Woman with a cheeky little bit of solo bass from BillWill
Come out to play, the storm has rolled in and away.
We're on at the Townie tonight.
i got some lasers.
Fricken' Lasers.
The heavens were pleased
I got'em at DJ warehouse where I shot this pic. Bye Jason. thanks for all the fish. Referencing the original 'Elite' game graphics makes you Number 1 in my book.
So much happening right now. Must blog tomorrow after we get through all this.
Did I mention the Bhangra? During this weeks mixing of our instrumentals we've been....ah...I'll save it for later.
Meanwhile, it's a Friday night and here's some post storm music to get you ready to hit the Himalayas of your Friday night.
Get down!
Go Punjab!
Howdy folks.
The weather in Sydney for the past few days has hovered on the brink of storms. The air as a capacitor, taking up heat and charge, holding it over a sleepless night, storms fighting at the edge of Sydney until they break through to cover the harbour and join with the sea today.
I even had to rescue my mate Dave from the backyard. He got trapped in the laundry during the downpour. 10 dangerous steps to the house too far.
All this whilst we're working on 'The Flood'.
Such are byproducts of energetic systems.
This Friday night, at the Townie with Isaiah B Brunt.
From 10-2am.
