Talofa from Padstow
We were honored to be invited to the Choral practise for the Samoan Congregation at the Padstow Baptist Church today, thanks to Freddy and the gang.
After a big night in Surf Country, we had to get up sort of bright and early (certainly by Muso Standards) to spend some time bathing in the beautiful vocal sounds of the community choir, singing in English and Samoan.
We're working on a track for SC2 called 'Island Time' and we're hoping to include a little authentic Samoan Culture in it.
Its terrific to know that Island culture is alive and well on the Big Island at places like the Baptist church.
Freddy and the girls and guys gave us a preview of their show tomorrow (or should I call it a Service) and in reply, Paul and i trotted out 'Island Time' and 'Glenrowan' until Mrose arrived so we could do the proper version. As I said to MR, we dont sound nearly as good unless he's there.
The Samoan and inter-island communities are keeping their musical traditions vibrantly alive with regular performances and even a 'Samoan Idol' with songs in Samoan and English.
If, reading this, you live in Sydney, why not get out and see these guys? Its a heck of a way to spend a morning, I can vouch for it. I'll post a link to their site as soon as its working properly (still under construction....)
There's something awe inspiring about harmony.
Anyway, we're hoping to learn a few tips from the Choir to apply to the Bridge in Island time. I'll be sure to post details as it develops! If you're keen on hearing the song (before it gets recorded) we're doing it live at our gigs now, whilst we make the next album.
Hope to see you at a gig soon!
Rgds
