Striving to better, oft we mar what's well

We went back into the studio on Monday night to remix Travelling song, add choruses, tweak levels, change snare sounds.

That was all OK. Then I got a bit keen on 'adjusting' the harp solo int he middle, dropping the level and messing with it..

On listening to it subsequently I start to wonder whether we're (by we, I mean, Me)  improving on Pete's mix or stuffing it up.

(sigh)

We'll be releasing both versions; the very elegant and smooth mix that Pete produced to start with and then the more raucous, live sounding mix that the band prefers.

Pete sees the studio material as its own thing, that live shows should be different, whereas Mr Wizard, Rosie and Yours Truly like the way we sound live and are trying to replicate that.

I can see merit in both points of view.

The Curious Assembly project has had the benefit of allowing us to examine each song as a single, with more elapsed time between recordings.

We're also now working towards 'sonic' outcomes, in other words, setting a goal of how something should sound and seeing how close we get.

I was hoping to post a revised clip but I'll hold off as we ponder the changes we've made.
