Fr fr no cap, as they say on the web these days.
Whilst being grateful to have been able to work on the new stuff during COVID using the gear we had available, oh my goodness was it nice to go into a well appointed studio again. Monitoring? check. Setup ease? check. Even a new drum kit. Theo was pretty stoked with the Gretsch kit Ben has, he made happy drummer noises.
I felt like I needed some guidance on final vocals, so I was glad to see Ben. Even gladder when he got a ping on for Strange Pleasures and volunteered to mix it. Really? WOOOOOT!
Another one off my list.
We're due to meet and review the current batch. There are 3-4 that still need some work, the rest are moving towards 'we've done as much as we know how to do' status.
Some new shows coming up. Things are going to the New Normal. Whatever that is.
With some luck and continued perseverance, we may see the next album within a few months.
To support the completion of our 13th studio release, donate here: paypal.me/stormcellarband I wanna add strings :)
It's getting there. Wow. Final vox done on 4 songs. ish. I think.
It's also at the point where i need to consult a spreadsheet to work out where each one is up to and who's mixing it. Ben wants to have a go at 'Strange Pleasures' which is cool. Sort of. I mean the idea of this thing was DIY so...err...hard to turn down the offer tho. As in OF COURSE YES.
Mama di'n't raise no fool.
Elapsed time tho is...2 years-ish. I mean yeah yeah Covid/End Times/Alien Invasion what have you, and yet....still? Ok yes we released an EP and a live album. Ok fine. But this shi...stuff...has taken...err...the time it took?
One day I'll ride off into the sunset on a Buffalo. Today is not that day. guy on a buffalooooo.
There's still a bunch of stuff to go. Plus more tracks to round it out to the requisite target number.
You know I came here to sort of say' hey we're making progress' and now I think about it there's a lot more to be done and not as much as I think.
I get that each album has been its own unique trip. I mean, journey. Who am I to say that this total chaos is not the best way to make an album.
Meanwhile, we can sing along with guy on a buffalooooo
It's been a while since we had a live show in front of humans. We even had some requests. 'Play swamp monster' (we didn't rehearse it so we didn't), 'Play Sweet Mama' (ok, can do, we had rehearsed it), 'Show us your bumhole'...What?
"Show us where you pee!"
Neither of those are songs of ours.
As I replied to the heckler, I usually don't get asked that until after one of the Ballads.
Ah Sydney, we missed ya and you never fail to surprise.
Happy birthday to Tom who is known as Tom, but was also named 'Bob'. Cheers to Miss Suzanne, Ms Sal and all the folks that joined us last night.
I especially liked that the background music for the night was Secret Treaties by BÖC. My favourite of their albums, sadly we didn't make it all the way to Astronomy but I got to sing along for Harvester of Eyes and Cagey Cretins. Well done to the lads, good to sing the new songs. Good to be back doing the thing.
Meanwhile, before the next show, I guess I gotta go look up Bottom Bleaching, after all, it's good to be prepared for requests!
mmm Chocolate Starfish!
Is it a bird? a plane? a gig? No. Can't be. Deja-venue?
Will it actually go ahead? Who can say!
So today, the sniffles and the weather means no fixing drums. One of the zombie songs wont stay dead and is chasing me around the garden.
Also? I miss studio engineers. For Reasons.
Is this process moving at its own pace? Like every other album, a different production process yielding its own unique flavour?
Is this slow or just right? These questions and more will likely remain permanent questions and the answer will shift depending on a variety of factors, including the angle of the moon and how strong my teabag is.
