Gong to the Hogs - Week's gig Reports
Motorcycles outside the gig. Welcome to the wild west!
Howdy Folks.
2009 has started busily for us. We're gigging a couple of times a week at the moment and trying to finish the 2nd album.
This week we had the pleasure of a trip to the 'Gong for a night at the Oxford Tavern.
We got there early, with plenty of time to setup, but found we couldnt load in until after the bistro had shut. Whilst Mal, Rosie, Paul and myself made casual conversation over a burger from the bistro (might as well?), Mark went to commune with the waves, taking walk along the beach - only a few minutes down the street from the pub.
Recharged with energy, we then ajusted our three sets into two to accomodate the adjusted requirements of the evening.
Lo and behold, mid set, smokey's speaker blew up. You can see why we call him smokey. Its a brand new speaker as well. Mal took it back to the shop, as he explained to me, 'expletive thing was expletive expleted. Told them to expleting fix the expleting thing. Its brand expleting new, explete it.' I know using the term 'expletive' incorrectly, but you get the idea.
The boys setting up
Thanks to Sean on sound for sorting the matter out and hope you got some sleep. 23 bands mixed that week. Sheesh.
Cheers to Brett, alana and the gang for making our evening so pleasant, and big thanks to the chaps who bought some cd's - it is helping us to continue to record more stuff.
Friday Location Scout for Spacejunk
See - we're super tricky, we hide bits of information in the blogs. I spent Friday scouting for locations for Spacejunk. What is spacejunk you may well ask? Well, it's not SC2. Its another SC project in progress now. I wont say more at present, but whilst I was scouting we came across an very nice waterfall. It has nothing to do with the project but it was very cool, so here's some vid:
Gig 2 - Wallacia Hotel
Had to get up early to get to wallacia. Its always interesting to find out that the place you are playing is a 'neutral' venue. In case you dont know what that means (like me) it is a place where Bike...err...what do you sall them (sir?) Bike....Riders! (aha!) who subscribe to differing affiliations can meet safely. Today was definitely a day for a ride and the guys and gals were out in force, on chrome and steel machines, hotrods, leathers and helmets.
Our GPS unit (Sean The GPS Leprechaun) had advised us to take some backroads to get there, shaking marks faith in technology, until with a 'toorn roight in tree huntrett maters', Sean guided us safely to the Wallacia Hotel.
It was truly a great day for a drive.
Beer garden area at the rear of the Wallacia. Ample Chopper Parking.
Mal and Mark getting ready for set 2
We had a full afternoon with a good turn out. The grill kept pumping out the lunches, the bikes rolled in and out, with the mechanical growlings of the harleys rumbling a hello and goodbye greeting each time they arrived and departed.
We got through our entire repertoire, including a few extra blues numbers in the glorious afternoon sunlight.
Mal spotted this hotrod outside. I know what he wants for christmas.
That was a very pleasant gig to end the week on, thanks to Jeff and the girls.
We have three gigs this week, plus three separate recording sessions. Yikes. I am going to go get some sleep.
Until next time.
