Howdy Folks. That was a jam packed last weekend between Rehearsal on Friday and then gigs on Saturday and Sunday. I think we're all still recovering from various cases of the local Flu, which has rather limited my blogging for the last two days. I am still processing the pics and vids we got from Sunday and hope to have a few up this week, quality permitting :-)
Nonetheless, its important that I take a moment away from Generic Cold and Flu remedy to at leats make a special mention and thanks to all the people and musicians who supported the Southern Fried Big Band's first endeavours on Saturday night.
It was a rare privilege to play in the company of such a talented bunch. Our gratitude goes out to Mike Kerin (Fettler), Jeremy Craib (note I spelled it right this time), Susie Hobday and Jim Finn for joining us on stage.
Also, we couldnt have done it without the support of Faye coming in to work on our sound setup. Thank you Faye.
We spent the evening in the company of friends and it was a dang fine thing. Stay tuned for some additional reporting on the night in the next few days :-)
Still recovering from a big night lats night, but well enough to say we're back on the prowl at the Penrith Hotel on Friday night and the Bald Rock Hotel in Rozelle on Saturday.
With the big band gig on Sunday I almost forgot we're playing the Pendle Hill Inn on Saturday night, from 9:30! Even better, Fettler is coming down for the evening to prepare for the Sunday Night session with the Southern Fried Big Band, so we'll have his awesome Fiddle Skills for the night.
Howdy Folks. We played the Raby Tavern last night and a more Ocker, Authentic Australian Experience would be hard to come by this far east of the Black Stump. Cheers to Pete, Kel, Steve and the folks who spent the evening with us.
Here's Theo, Rosie and Rixie taking a breather between sets
In a moment that Snowy would be proud of, some of the local lads were there to watch the football and Heckle (Play some Akka Dakka, play some Sabbath!) until we explained the song for Snowy (Snowy and the Boys) and substituted Derek (one of the guys) in the lyric. The song met with their strong approval as it pretty much described their own story.
Here's Dereks mates trying to balance a glass on one anothers head. This was amusing for a while until the glass fell off and smashed, followed by the the large Security Guy inviting them to depart.
Last night we did On The Road Again by Canned heat for the first time at a gig. it went so well we had to do it twice. By the second pass it had started to develop that hypnotic drone. It will be interesting to see how that progresses.
Oh, got a great moment of Michael Rix doing some Bass solo stuff during Scruff of your neck. Have a gander. The video drops out as soon as I have to grab my harp and return to playing...
We had a fun evening and we look forward to going back there soon. This next week is going to be very busy with the Pendle Hill gig on the Saturday and the Southern Fried Big Band experiment on Sunday. Hope to see you, Dear Reader, at one of these fine locations :-)

Colin spins some awesome local talent on his Feel Good Revival show on 2RRR and he graciously played a whole bunch of our stuff last night whilst we had a chat about various things, such as where Mr Wizard got his name from.
The best part of last night for me was hearing some of CB's choice tracks, including our great mate Steve Flack, some awesome harp from The Flaming Mudcats out of New Zealand and the inimitable Robert Suess. Jeez Robert can play some mean harp.
Community Radio is the greatest supporter of local talent we have in our media environment and we've been fortunate to receive such great support from local (and o/s) 'Alternative' stations. If you dont want your music experience to be limited to the Top 40 playlist, remember to spin your radio dial (or press the scan button) and check out the range of shows, themes and artists played on the Community Radio stations around Australia (and Ze Vurld!)
