Stormcellar at Shady Pines Sunday Dec 23
This Sunday, acoustic mode, Shady's.
This Sunday, acoustic mode, Shady's.
Compliments to the gentlemen for continued development work.
We whittled the songs to 60 'possibles' for an all-acoustic set, then we tested them until we got down to 40 options.
A thoroughly rewarding process. I wanted to video some of it.
Heh.
Cheers to Jim Finn for dropping in on Sunday.
Life as a working band continues.
Effort is required, big ups to Brother Bill for extra effort on sound stuff.
A very pleasant day in the sunshine, our grateful thanks to the organisers for taking such good care of us.
Also - while getting coffee, I spotted 'Nonna Maria's' Gnocchi. A contender for Best Gnocchi in the universe. Like soft pillows of cheesy softness. Every other time I have had Gnocchi they've been like Dumplings. this was like a fluffy cloud of tastiness. Gotta love ya Nonna.
Sunday saw us back to our pub-floor roots.
Port and Starboard :-)
Thanks to all the folks who joined us for the evening.
That's just about it for the year, our last show for 2018 is at Shady Pines on the 23rd.
We've decided to do it Low Fi and Acoustic (ish). Thanks to Ben L for the loan of a national.
We have to do new arrangements and rehearsals to make it work.
Thus, work continues.
Updated Lyrics
Thanks for the reminder, all of Rogue State is now up online in the lyrics section.
Next Things
We're doing some new stuff. In addition to bringing in some of the electric songs from Rogue State via an Acoustic treatment, we're also looking forward to featuring some guests, with a first go at it on Jan 6th at the Wickham Park Hotel, up in Hamilton.
As we start to get it together, I'll be video'ing and blogging so you'll know what we're up to.
Sometimes it's more reasonable to keep mum about what we're up to, and just show you. There's a lot of stuff we try that doesn't make it past the 'what if' stage, or falls over just after.
All the good stuff we get is to be found with us, here. The sunshine, the community, the experience, the awareness of looking around and seeing what is still real and beautiful, and made the stronger for it paying attention to it, rather than all the noise and fury to be found on every screen.
if it suits you, if you're near, join in some time. Come out to the country on a run. Find amazing honey. See the trees. Come out to a venue, hang out with friendly people, dance a little.
And if you're somewhere else, wherever you need to be, take a stroll through the blogs or the video and come with us as we do the simple day to day things of being in a working band.
To quote our dear friend Dr Rock, before enlightenment, you chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment? you chop wood and carry water :-)
We skipped enlightenment and i think we're making tea, as we appear to have both wood and water and we are all about solutions, down here in the stormcellar.
Wasn't I the one who said 'we're not really making cd's anymore?'
Yep.
We are making short runs. For the retro souvenir market.
Gave a CD to someone a few weeks ago, a few weeks later they said 'wow, i didn't have anything to play it on, then I remembered my DVD player...'
Good to see Curious Assembly back in print. Always liked that album.
Get 'em. where you see us, when we got'em, while we got'em.
Got an email from a mate in France asking some good questions about the new album.
Apparently I have not put all the lyrics up in the lyrics section yet. Oops.
Je m'excuse. Will fix.
And after a week with a Cold (achoo) I am just about ready to do some stuff.
Things We're Up to:
Brother Bill has accepted the challenge to send a few of the songs into acoustic mode. So that's happening.
That means new arrangements and instrumentation.
Plus at least one new song that's now moving to Phase 2.
Plus doing the arrangements so that Mr Hawke can come jam with us. I haven't mentioned that yet have I?
Oh. Yeah. Michael's agreed to join us as a guest for a show soon.
We're working regularly over the next while and taking the opportunity to do new things.
Maintain course and speed.
I did it. I took down time. yay!
Also it's fair to say that communication is evolving again.
Back in the day, this site was the best way for our friends who were Overseas Doing Things to see what we're up to.
Recently, with more private, persistent social media alternatives, we've been able to include Serving friends in what we're doing without going to all the trouble of writing a blog post.
Thus I have been able to share from my phone, so we're still keeping up our objective of putting a bit of Home in other time zones :-)
Meanwhile, I've actually taken the time to slow down from what really has been a busy year.
If you have watched the most recent video, it's still amazing to note that's what we see around us. Travel, rehearsal, song development, recording, playing.
I still have hopes of seeing another video out this year.
Meanwhile (part 2) the next crop of songs is under development. Not that I am rushing to get back into the studio and record. Ye Gods. There is a certain inevitability about it.
Meanwhile (part 3) there has already been reviewing of the map for the next season's work. I am not hurrying 2018 by any faster than it needs to go, but ya gotta plant the seeds in the right season, and that's now.
I hear that the C.R.A.B is rumoured to be coming back.
I hear other whispers of experiments to come, as somewhere down in the alchemical labs beneath the stormcellar, Mr Wizard and the Cellar Fellers are still trying to spin straw into gold.
Nope I am not gonna do my year end round up yet. There are still things to do.
