Long video (7 min), short blog.
Day 18 or something like that - Woodcox - Danny Cox's Lawn, K.C, KS
Last year we got rained out just as the KC All Stars started playing. This year, we'd already used up our quotient of bad weather.
There are too many Sci Fi fans in this band. Face it. we're nerdelicious.
Nice plug for Drum city there Theo :-)
Ave! Danny Cox; we come in peace!
I've heard of Sun tea, now I've heard of Shade Tea
The stadium had been renovated since our last appearance. Roof!
Danny was raising goods for 'Harvesters'.
Locally, our equivalent is OZharvest - taking food that would otherwise go to waste and using to help people.
Danny's kind of a big deal on supporting charity stuff. I know that's utterly mangled english but so 'web moderne', yes? anyway.
I was videoing a lot, so when better to photobomb? Outstanding!
Yay I'm finally up to the video from the lawn party. I have a bunch more performance stuff from the day, yet to come.
Music starts around 2min in, Danny spontaneously decided to get in on the action.
To Come
- The Millage People
- KC Kelsey brought his holster, but he didn't bring his gun (love that line)
- DC Bellamy
- Us 'Cellar Fellers
- Random Stuff!
That's right. We made a page of 'Whats happening at Sydney nightspots' in local street press. therefore we are hip.
But I posted it here so therefore we recognise it so therefore we are not hip anymore.
However, as we're self aware of our non hipness despite any indications to the contrary, it makes us very hip indeed. We are in a quantum Hip/Unhip state and I expect to remain in this superposition until entropy overtakes us.
Therefore I now posit MJEB's law of Quantum Hipnodynamics. It is possible to know if a band exists or if it's hip, but not both at the same time. The act of observation causes the state to consolidate into a finite Hip/Unhip state in the locus of your reality.
Yep, obscurity means you could be the best band no one has ever heard.
In a forest. Beside a soundless fallen tree.
With a simultaneously dead and alive cat.
Think about it, you know it makes sense.
Howdy Folks.
For a short bit I am putting the full version of Rock River up so you can listen cos I dig it a lot and so might you.
Buy it if ya want.
Howdy!
Not all the music making took place on stage in front of peoples. We spent plenty of time in many environments writing, rehearsing and sometimes even entertaining our kind hosts. Here are some photos I took while away from playing the shows, creating new stuff.
At The Blackhawk Trail Lodge on the banks of Rock River - we were either working on You Can't Push Me Away or Rock River. You can't see it in these photos but the area is just one of the most peaceful and inspiring places we've been to and it got the creative spark glowing brightly. Speaking of glowing, on one of the evenings as we were writing by the river there were fireflies flying around us - just magical.
Here are some shots of the playing - taken on the back porch of some dear friends' place in Kansas City ... you know who you are:
More to come!
Cheers,
Rosie
Busy time off screen. Waiting for the audio transfer system to process Rock River.
In the interim it's back to El Bloggo. For newbies: comments pics and then some vids. For reg'lar 'cellar dwellers, you know the drill.
Day 15 (Continued) into Day 16
We arrived in KC and wound up at the Ship with Dj D-Wayne spinning disks until the wee small hours and some singing with Danny Cox.
A shout out to APRA, the Australian Performing rights organisation. Using Skype on my newly acquired phone I was able to call them in the we small hours of KC time to ask obscure questions about song registration. Of course it was normal daylight hours back home but they managed to understand my weird 3am ramblings and occasional Ip telephony drop outs.
Roscoe almost dispatched yet another Bass Player until he realised he needed him for the Liquid Courage gig in two nights time.
Day 16. Geomancy
L&L hosted us once again. Louis has all but convinced me that Geomancy is real, the magic of certain places.
He aslo filled me in on the practical aspects of Aztec Human Sacrifice, but that's another story entirely.
KFFI
The wonderful Mr Jason Vivone invited us in to KFFI for a live song or two, here's Bill and Jo in the Green room (note it was just a green room)
I spotted this on the drive and my hopes were dashed when I found out it was a mobile phone dealer. Homesick for...cricket??...oh dear oh dear.
Rehearsing at L&L's - puppy optional
Theo and I took a wander out to review potential studios
Day 17 - Back at Knuckleheads
Nice day for it. See what I mean about us and the weather.
Hmmm
Vintage 70's Signage
Now I just noticed this. the night we played Knucks was also the 40th reunion for River Rock, playing in the outside bar. As we have just finished uploading our new song 'Rock River' as I blog this..oooh...SPOOKY!!..
It was great to see Pete S in good form and a big night was had by all.
Cheers to Frank and thanks to Carl for great sound all night.
Day 18 The Bon Ton Soul Accordion Band
D-Dawg took us to hear these guys, Solid, but not my thing. They're a legendary local at with a huge following
Supporting Liquid Courage at Slick Willys
Roscoes band 'Solid Gold Easy' pulled out of the gig we were due to support them at so Zico, Roscoe and Bill put together a new act entitled 'Liquid Courage' and we joined them for an evening at Slick Willys.
Go Z
Mr Wizard made a new friend.
Cheers to Matt at SW's and a shout out to Jimmy and New York Diesel, both hard acts to follow.
Heres the few days compressed in some vid
Next Episode:
- the Kansas City All Stars come out
- As serious as a heart attack
- Providence in KC,KS.
